August 1st-5th
Stretch..............................................................................................Serve........................................................................................................Grow
A song I learned as a child had the words, "Be a missionary every day."... it has a very catchy tune and many of you may have learned it as well but as the church, how many of us have lived that song out?
Jesus told his Disicples that they would be his witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Smaria and on to the uttermost parts of the earth. They would be His missionaries. So very often church mission projects focus on the "uttermost parts of the earth" and forget that our first mission field is the one closest to us, the one we are living in, the one that surrounds us everyday.
We can never hope to be missionaries on foreign soils, to reach the "uttermost parts" if we are not living out life on mission everyday where we are. So Gowen Bible Church is being called to start a Local Mission trip that will focus on being the missionaries to our "Jerusalem". One famous missionary once said that the church had done a good job of sending missionaries overseas but had forgotten to send them across the street!
So in 2017 we will hit the Road and begin to serve as missionaries in our local environment. Maybe you have wondered what it is like to go on a mission trip, but have never had the opprotunity to go. or maybe you have asked these questions; What would it look like if we did not live here, but had come as a group of missionaries to this area, what would we do? Who would we serve? What projects would we be involved in? These are the questions we will find answers to August ____ 2017. Come join us on the Road as we discover what it means to live on mission as Gowen Bible Church.
Some of the objectives:
We will have a chance to serve around the church buildings by doing building projects.
Help neighbors with various projects.
Hand out church cards, invite neighbors to church, and pray for people.
Discover how to read the bible, study it, memorize it, and meditate on God's word.
And much more... (On a mission trip you learn flexibility. Everyday looks different. And you don't always get to choose what you want to do, rather you go, do, and serve where you are needed / when you are needed. So together we will stretch, serve, and grow! It will be a lot of fun and very memorable, you won't want to miss it!)
Two trips are being offered to accommodate work schedules. Trip One: 9am-2pm (and ) Trip Two: 5pm-9:30pm
Cost: $25 per participant (12 years and older)
We will have childcare for kids 6 and younger, and older children can help with the mission projects. (*7-11 year olds would be able to participate at no cost)
